Perry Cox, better known as Merry Perry, is featured on HITZ 107.1 FM between the hours of 4 and 8 p.m. during drive time with Cameron.
With beginnings in the industry as a bartender at nighttime hotspots such as Power Station, Club Crocodile, Edge and Club Coconuts, Perry soon found his niche in the DJ booths of each of these establishments scratching records and mixing tunes while mixing drinks for partygoers.
While at Club Coconuts, as bar supervisor, Perry got his opportunity to launch his career when he became the house DJ at the popular night spot. He was soon thereafter given the nickname “Merry Perry” by DJ Signal to Noise. “Buss Dance Merry Perry” came about a few years later when his good friend Hypa Hoppa renamed him. After seven years at Club Coconuts, Merry Perry chose to leave the establishment and venture on his own.
He soon found himself in the homes and hearts of listeners on Hott 93 on weekends during the Firestorm segment and Way Back Wednesdays. He was there for two years before he was offered, in 2005, a position at the newly launched urban radio station, RED 96.7FM as DJ for the Red Hot Morning Show with Blaze and JW as well as Sunday evenings from 6 to 9 p.m. with host Cameron during Camperry Juice. After 4 ½ years on the R.H.M.S., Perry was invited to join the cast of RED’s newly formed sister station HITZ 107.1FM. Since its launch in August 2009, Merry Perry has delighted listeners during Drive Time with Cameron and Merry Perry.
Aside from being featured on radio, Merry Perry has been a part of Trinidad Carnival for many years providing road music for Harts (alongside DJ Hi-Fidelity) for three years, Barbarosa for three years, Poison for two years, Tribe for three years and Spice for two years. He also takes the culture internationally with road music for DC Carnival and is featured in parties Grenada, Canada and across the United States.
He hosts two events annually: Pink & Blue, a Carnival cruise and 12-10, his anniversary party. Both events give Perry the opportunity to showcase his versatility as, not only a DJ, but a promoter and entrepreneur.
With a keen ear and an appreciation for all genres of music, Merry Perry has a versatility all his own.
